User can change password with limited account

Overview

This article serves as a workaround for letting the user change their password but they still have a limited access on the Solarwinds website.

Please take note of the following:

  • This will be managed by SW administrator.
  • It is possible for the user to assign himself an admin access to the SolarWinds Web Console.

Environment

Orion

Steps

  1. On your orion server, go to Start > All Programs > Solarwinds Orion > Advance Features > Database Manager.
  2. Click Add default server.
  3. On Database Manager, browse to Accounts Table.
  4. Identify the user account that you want to edit. 
  5. Highlight the row and select "Enable table editing".
  6. Since you created the user as limited user, you just need to change the "AllowAdmin" column. Change "N" with "Y".
  7. Click "Enable table editing" for the changes to take effect.
  8. Verify the changes you made by clicking again the "Execute query". Data should show the updated info you made. 
  9. Try to login to SolarWinds website to change the password in Orion website > Settings > Users Accounts > Manage Accounts.
