Use the caption variable when creating reports

Table of contents

Updated May 19, 2017

Using caption instead of other variables to show the node name is recommended for consistency purposes when creating reports.

All Orion Platform versions

Caption is more consistent than other variables when showing the node names.

When creating reports, using a variable other than caption for the node names may result in output inconsistencies because the Node Details page is showing the caption for the name, and other variables may come from, for instance, the sysname of the node, which can be different than the node's caption (which comes from DNS).
