Overview

The following error occurs when executing an alert test e-mail:

The specified string is not in the form required for an e-mail address.

Environment

  • NPM 12.3
  • All Orion Platform products (see below)

Cause

The To field has a format the email engine cannot handle.

It might have multiple variables, or the variables used in it might have been corrupted.

Resolution

Resolution 1

This resolution applies only to NPM 12.3.

Use only one macro or custom property in the To field. For example:

Incorrect

$ { { { { N=SwisEntity;M=CustomProperties.TestEmail } } } } $ { { { { DefaultEmailTo } } } } }

Correct

$ {N=SwisEntity;M=CustomProperties.TestEmail}

Resolution 2.

Use the Insert variable in the message field to find the correct format for the variable, then apply that to the To field. For example:

Incorrect

${N=SwisEntity;M=Nodes.CustomProperties.TestEmail}

Correct

${N=SwisEntity;M=CustomProperties.TestEmail}
