The SolarWinds Administration service does not respond to ServerName

Updated April 25, 2017

Overview

The SolarWinds Administration service does not respond to the OrionServerName trigger.

This issue is encountered even when the web-based Orion Service Manager is able to manage additional web servers and additional polling engines.

Environment

Orion Platform version 2016.1 and later

Cause

This issue is a result of a problematic IIS binding that the Orion Service Manager hangs on when listing services.  See the example below:

Resolution

  1. Run inetmgr. This opens the IIS Manager.
  2. Expand the local IIS server.
  3. Expand the sites.
  4. Select the SolarWinds NetPerfMon website.
  5. Click Actions, and then select Bindings.
  6. Remove any IIS bindings that are not needed.
