The NPM Web Console takes a while to load

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the issue when pages take a while to load. The Web Console runs slowly when a device is accessed or when attempting to connect to pages on the SolarWinds web server.

NPM version 10.7 or later

The following are causes for this issue:

  • When a program uses a certificate that does not exist in the server’s local trusted root certificate authority (CA) list, the Automatic Root Certificate Update component attempts to retrieve a new trusted root certificate and certificate revocation list from Microsoft.

If a connectivity issue exists between your server and the Microsoft site, this process may not complete or may take longer than usual to complete, which results in long page load times.

  • The SolarWinds server may have been improperly registered on the domain controller, or the entry may be corrupted. This causes the Web Console to slow down because the server has to establish a connection from the Web Console to other SolarWinds services using Windows Security Infrastructure.

Resolution  I - Turn off Automatic Root Certificate Updates

You must log on as a member of the local Administrators group or as a user with the appropriate permissions to change the server’s group policy.

  1. Click Start, then click Run.
  2. Type gpedit.msc, then click OK.
  3. Under Computer Configuration navigate toAdministrative Templates > System > Internet Communication Management > Internet Communication Settings.
  4. Double click Turn off Automatic Root Certificates Update.
  5. Select Enabled, and then click OK.

Note: You may need to modify this setting in your AD group policy.

Resolution II -  Re-add the server to the domain

Remove the SolarWinds server from the domain and add it again.
