The Configuration Wizard hangs while validating the NetPerfMon service

Table of contents

Issue:

The Configuration Wizard hangs while validating the NetPerfMon service with the following error:

[6] ERROR InfoServiceProxy - An error occured opening a connection to the orion communication service.
System.ServiceModel.EndpointNotFoundException: No DNS entries exist for hostComputerName. --->
System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No such host is known at System.Net.Dns.GetAddrInfo(String name)

Resolution:

If you are installing an Orion product on a server that uses NetBIOS for hostname resolution, confirm that your full computer name is no longer than 15 characters in length. Microsoft trims any characters beyond the fifteenth in a NetBIOS-resolved hostname, and this may prevent Orion services from properly identifiying your Orion server.

This article applies to all SolarWinds products on the Orion Platform.
