Stop email notification from an alert

Overview

This article describes how to locate and stop unwanted email alerts in Orion.  

Environment

  • Orion version 2013+
  • NPM version 10.3+

Cause 

This issue occurs due to the un-wanted email address being part of the trigger action of an alert.

Resolution

An alert email can come from one of five possible choices in the SolarWinds Orion environment:

  • Web Based Alerts (this is for NPM 11.5 and newer)
    • Open the Alerts in Webconsole
    • Click on the Manage alerts Icon
    • Select the "Action manager" tab
    • Locate the alert (Assigned alert)and disable the email action on the alert
  • Advanced Alert Manager (NPM 11.0.1 and below)
    • Open advanced alert manager
    • Click on Configure alerts
    • Locate the alert in the list and select edit
    • Go to "Trigger actions" and delete the email action
  • Basic Alert Manager (NPM 11.0.1 and below)
    • Open basic alert manager
    • Click on configure alerts
    • Locate the alert and select "Edit alert"
    • Click on "Actions" tab and locate email action
    • Click on "Delete selected action"
  • Syslog Viewer 
    • Open Syslog viewer
    • Click on "View" and then select  "Alerts/Filter Rule"
    • Locate and select the Rule that is sending emails
    • Click on "Edit" and go to " Alert Actions" tab
    • Locate and select the "Send E-mail/Page" action and select "Delete Selected Action"
  • Trap Viewer
    • Open Trap Viewer
    • Click on "View" and then select  "Alerts/Filter Rule"
    • Locate and select the Rule that is sending emails
    • Click on "Edit" and go to " Alert Actions" tab
    • Locate and select the "Send E-mail/Page" action and select "Delete Action"

 

It is also possible that you might be using our Free Tool Alert Central which is supported on Thwack only as a free tool. 

The Advanced Alert Manager was discontinued and functionality was rolled into the Orion Platform. For the latest information about alerts, see Alerting resources for Orion Platform products.
