Overview

This article addresses the issue where the SolarWinds Trap Service keeps restarting every 5 seconds.

Environment

  • NPM 11.5.2 applied with HotFix 6
  • NPM 12.0 or later

Steps

For NPM 11.5.2

Run netstat -ano | findstr 162

If there are no processes using the port, perform the following steps:

  1. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Orion\SWTrapService.exe.config
  2. Find this key: <add key="UseCollectorEndpoint" value="false"/>
  3. Change "true" to "false".
  4. Restart the Trap Service.
  5. On the Trap Viewer, go to Trap Viewer Settings > Alerts/Filter Rules.
  6. Locate the Trap rule(s) causing the Trap Service to restart.
  7. Disable and delete the rule.

For NPM 12.0 or later

Run netstat -ano | findstr 0.0:162

If there is a PID process using the port, perform the following steps:

  1. Open Task Manager.
  2. Select the Services tab and find the PID on the netstat command.
  3. If the service is not SolarWindsTrapService, disable and stop the service.
  4.  Restart the SolarWinds Trap service.
