Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to configure Polling settings. NPM uses Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) to poll devices for response time and status, with the option of calculating node availability based on that status. Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is used to poll for performance statistics. SNMP and ICMP polls are conducted on independent schedules for nodes, interfaces, and volumes, all using independent timers that are set on the Orion Polling Settings view.

Environment

All NPM versions

Steps

1. Log into the Orion Web Console as an administrator.
2. Go to Views, and then click Admin.
3. In the Settings group, click Polling Settings.

Note: ICMP timers are listed under Polling Intervals section, and SNMP timers are listed under Polling Statistics Intervals section.

For more information about Orion Polling Settings, see section on Orion Polling Settings in the SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor Adminstrator Guide.
