Required permissions to execute SWQL and SQL queries for web-based reports

Overview

This article explains the security permissions required to execute SWQL and SQL queries for web-based reports.

Environment

All NPM versions

Detail

Creating an SQL-based report requires both administrator and report management permissions for security reasons. SQL queries can alter and potentially corrupt a database, therefore, these queries are restricted to administrators only. Without this permission, the option to build an SQL query is grayed out.

SWQL-based reports are still available as they use basic SQL style commands to select data and do not allow the user to update data which makes it a non-security risk compared to SQL.
