Replace the Polling Collector

Overview

This article details how to replace the Polling Collector.

Environment

  • NPM version 11.5.2
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows Server 2003

Steps

  1. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Orion Services Manager.
     
  2. Stop all SolarWinds services in the Orion Services Manager.
     
  3. Rename the current PollingController.sdf file as PollingController_sdf.old.
    Note: The default location of the PollingController.sdf file:
    * Windows Server 2003 - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SolarWinds\Collector\Data\
    * Windows Server 2008 - C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Collector\Data\

     
  4. Create a copy of PollingController - Blank.sdf, and then rename the copy as PollingController.sdf.
    Note: The default location of the PollingController - Blank.sdf file.
    * Windows Server 2003 - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SolarWinds\Collector\Data\
    * Windows Server 2008 - C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Collector\Data\

     
  5. Right-click the new PollingController.sdf, and then click Properties.
     
  6. Clear the Read-only box, and then click OK.
     
  7. Restart all SolarWinds services in the Orion Services Manager.
