Not getting the Interface information on a device

Updated November 9, 2017

Overview

This article discusses not receiving the Interface information on a device in NPM or SAM. You may be experiencing one of the following scenarios:

  • I am not receiving the Interface information on a device.
  • SNMP is working fine but is not receiving Interface information.

Example devices: Fortinet, Enterasys, Extreme, Bluecoat, IBM ASC, AS/400 ("IBM iSeries"), IBM Mainframe, AC6005, Avaya, Aruba, Huawei, APC, Cisco 867 and others.

Environment

  • NPM  - all supported versions
  • SAM - all supported versions

Details

NPM polls the following interface-related OIDs by default

If your device does not respond to any of the listed OIDs values, NPM will not be able to display any Interface information. In this case you will need to create a Universal Device Poller (as detailed in the SolarWinds UNDP video) to poll the information you want.
