Overview

Cisco switch ports are reported as blocked by the STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) but when checked on the CLI, the ports are not shown as blocked.

Environment

All versions of NPM

Cause

The CLI database and SMTP debase are reporting different results.

Resolution

  1. Get SNMP walk of the device.
  2. Check for the following OID:

Object     dot1dStpPortState
OID     1.3.6.1.2.1.17.2.15.1.3

Values

1 : disabled

2 : blocking
3 : listening
4 : learning
5 : forwarding

Note: In this case, the switch reports value 2 which tells that NPM reports the port as blocking.
