Overview

This article provides brief information on the following error when installing NPM 12.0 on MSI:

Example Error: 

ERROR OrionInstallerLib.InstallChain - System.ApplicationException: Unable to load MSI database inforamtion from C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Installers\SolarWindsActiveDiagnostics.msi ---> Microsoft.Deployment.WindowsInstaller.InstallerException: This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.

 

Environment

NPM 12.0

Cause 

The cause can be GPO, UAC, permissions or access to the Temp > SWOrionSetup folder during installation.

 

Resolution

  1. Run the NPM 12.0 installer.
  2. Open Run and enter %Temp%.
  3. Go to SWOrionSetup folder then to SubInstallers.
  4. Look for the specified MSI file that failed during the NPM 12.0 installation.
  5. Right-click on it, select Run as Administrator and manually install the specified MSI file.
  6. Re-run the NPM 12.0 installer or continue with the current one that is running.
