Interface xxxx disappeared

The event interface xxxx disappeared means that the interface is no longer present on the node so it cannot be polled.

  • All NPM versions
  • All SAM versions

Some devices change their interface indexes when rebooted. When this happens Orion tries to remap the node's interfaces to their new indexes (it is checking ifDescr, ifName, ifIndex). But when the interface no longer exists on the device, Orion creates the "Could not remap interface" event and changes its status to unknown. You can run List resources on the node and check that the interface is really missing on the device.

To get rid of these unmapped interfaces, you have to delete them manually and add the new interfaces of that node via List Resources or through a Discovery.

See the Interface Index (ifIndex) Persistence Cisco article for more information.
