ICMP Node can be pinged but node showing down

Overview

When adding a node via ICMP, it adds successfully but then after one minute it goes to warning and then to node down while the node is still able to be pinged from the server.

 

Environment

NPM version 11.5.2

 

Cause 

The device may be dropping our packets because it thinks it is a fragmented packet as our ping packet is smaller then windows 32 byte ping packet

 

Resolution

  1. Go to Settings > Polling Settings > ICMP data and add some characters to the default "SolarWinds Status Query". 
  2. Change it to "SolarWinds Status Query xxxxxxxx".
    1. where "x" is any character (This adds up to 32 character including spaces)
  3. Click submit and do a poll the node to see if it comes back up.
