How to recover Network Atlas Maps from Old Diagnostics

Table of contents

Updated April 27, 2018

Overview

Sometimes a Network Atlas map is mistakenly deleted, and you need to recover it. If you have a diagnostic file that was created before the map was deleted, you can use the diagnostic file to recover the map. Diagnostic files often exist if you have opened cases with SolarWinds Support in the past.

Environment

  • NPM, all versions

Steps

  1. Locate a diagnostic .zip file that was created before the map was deleted.
  2. Unzip the diagnostic file.
  3. Within the resulting folder, open the DB folder.
  4. Open MapStudioFiles.
  5. Filter by FileName (you are looking for files that end in .map).
  6. If you find the map, copy the FileId, from the column next to it.
  7. Go out of the DB folder.
  8. Open the Maps folder.
  9. Find the Map using the FileId you got previously.
  10. Copy the Map file to the computer with Network Atlas.
  11. Open Network Atlas and browse to the location of your exported map file.
  12. Save the file when you're finished with it.
