HA failover not working due to IPAM files missing

Updated December 7, 2017

Overview

After HA is configured and a test failover is initiated it causes SWIS to break and it causes the business layer to stop.

This can occur when Orion is not installed in the default location (for example, Orion is installed on the D drive instead of the C drive).

In addition, the HA pool status shows as critical, and the following messages are found in the logs.

SWIS V2 log:

2017-11-10 16:18:43,691 [78] INFO  SolarWinds.InformationService.Core.InformationServiceService - Information Service communication stopped.

BusinessLayerHost log:

2017-11-10 16:18:45,879 [30] INFO  SolarWinds.BusinessLayerHost.PluginInstanceSeparateProcess - Stopping plugin D:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\SolarWinds.Orion.ServiceDirectory.BusinessLayer.dll.config - ProcessID: 25768
2017-11-10 16:18:45,879 [26] INFO  SolarWinds.BusinessLayerHost.PluginInstanceSeparateProcess - Stopping plugin D:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\SolarWinds.Orion.Core.BusinessLayer.dll.config - ProcessID: 18324

Resolution

Check if these files:

SolarWinds.IPAM.Pollers.dll

SolarWinds.Orion.IpSla.Cli.dll

SolarWinds.Orion.IpSLA.Jobs.Cli.dll

They are located in <OrionHome>\Information Service\3.0.

image.png

Do not remove these files, but copy them to the corresponding location in the default installation directory:

Capture.PNG

Then restart services and try initiating a failover.
