Overview

This article describes the issue related to alerts triggered for nodes down that are currently up but cannot be pinged from the Orion server.

Environment

All versions of NPM

Cause

Orion uses ICMP (by default) to obtain the status of the node(s). If for any reason the routing changes or the ICMP failed for another reason then Solarwinds will flag the node as down due to the ICMP failure.

Resolution

From Orion server's perspective, there is no resolution for this issue as the ICMP failed. Therefore you would need to investigate your network to see where the ICMP failure is and resolve the issue.
