Overview

The following error message appears in Configuration Wizard after migrating to a new Orion server Customer migrated to new Orion server.

Exception while configuring plugin Quality of Experience Monitor component Database. Connection Timeout Expired.  The timeout period elapsed while attempting to consume the pre-login handshake acknowledgement. This could be because the pre-login handshake failed or the server was unable to respond back in time.  The duration spent while attempting to connect to this server was - [Pre-Login] initialization=21032; handshake=0;

Environment

  • NPM 11.5.3
  • Windows Server 2012 R2 with System Center EndPoint Protection

Steps

  1. Enable named pipes.
  2. Open CMD and run netstat -an.
  3. Verify that the Orion server and SQL database server are establishing connection.
  4. Disable/Uninstall System Center EndPoint Protection on both servers.
  5. Restart both NPM and database servers.
  6. Open CMD and run netstat -an.
  7. Both servers should now have an established connection.
  8. Run Configuration Wizard.
