Error: Failed to control VSFlexGrid from vsflex8.ocx

Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve  the following error when using Orion v8 Database Manager: 

Run-time error '372':

Failed to load Control 'VSFlexGrid' from vsflex8.ocx.  Your version 
of vsflex8.ocx may be outdated.  Make sure you are using the version 
of the control that was provided with your application. 

 

Environment

All NPM versions

 

Cause 

This error means that an older version of that file is registered with Windows, even though the older file may no longer be on the machine. 
 

 

Resolution

Register this newer version by doing the following:

  1. Browse to the vsflex8.ocx file in the C:\WINDOWS\system32 directory.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Open With...
  3. Select Browse.
  4. Browse to the C:\WINDOWS\system32 directory.
  5. Select the regsvr32.exe file.
  6. Click OK.

You should get a message confirming that the file was successfully registered.
 
Now, when you open the Database Manager, it should successfully open without any errors.
