Overview

After uninstalling a module from the Orion server, an error occurs when the configuration wizard is finished:

The process cannot access the file 'D:\InetPub\Solarwinds\bin\XXXXXXX' because it is being used by another process.

Environment

All NPM versions

Cause

Plugins were not fully uninstalled and website compilation is still in progress during the uninstallation process.

Possible Resolution

Rebuild Website

  1. Open IIS (Start > type INETMGR > press Enter).
  2. Expand IIS and click Application Pools.
  3. Stop the SolarWinds Orion Application Pool.
  4. Stop all Orion Services using Orion Service Manager.
  5. Open Volume:\InetPub.
  6. Cut and paste all of the Solarwinds Orion Websites folders including any with Solarwinds_OLD or .bak.
  7. Open the Orion Database Manager.
  8. Add Default Server.
  9. Run the following query on the Orion database:
    Select * FROM [dbo].[Websites]
  10. Delete website associated with main Orion website.
For example: Delete FROM [dbo].[Websites] where WebsiteID ='1'
Or delete all websites in list with: Delete FROM [dbo].[Websites]
Note: All the settings are stored in the database so by deleting the website you will not lose any data.
  11. Open the Orion Configuration Wizard.
  12. Choose all options
  13. Click Next and choose Yes to create a new website
Note: If you want website to be browsed by hostname w/out hostfile entry please choose all unassigned option instead of IP of the Orion server.
