Issue:

A SolarWinds FIPS Compliance Check has failed.

Resolution

If a SolarWinds FIPS Compliance Check has failed you have the following options to ensure a successful SolarWinds installation:

  • If FIPS-compliance is not a requirement, you can disable FIPS using the SolarWinds FIPS 140-2 Manager, as follows:
    1. Start the SolarWinds FIPS 140-2 Manager.
    2. Review the welcome text, and then click Next.
    3. If you have configured your SolarWinds server to "use FIPS-compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing and signing", the SolarWinds FIPS 140-2 Manager will attempt to confirm that the current configuration of your SolarWinds products is FIPS-compliant.
    4. If any currently installed SolarWinds products are not FIPS compliant, the FIPS Manager will notify you of which SolarWinds modules are not FIPS-compliant. Click Close, and then remove any non-compliant SolarWinds modules from your FIPS-compliant server before running the FIPS 140-2 Manager again.
Note: SolarWinds recommends that you install all FIPS-compliant SolarWinds software on specifically FIPS-compliant servers and separately maintain all non-compliant software on specifically non-compliant servers.
    5. If FIPS 140-2 is currently is enabled, check Disable FIPS 140-2, and then click Next.
    6. Click Restart now to restart all relevant SolarWinds services.
  • If FIPS-compliance IS a requirement, either upgrade the installed SolarWinds products that are not currently FIPS-compliant, or uninstall all SolarWinds products that are not currently FIPS-compliant. For more information, see the SolarWinds knowledge base article, "How do i enable FIPS?".
The following SolarWinds products are FIPS-compliant:
  • SolarWinds Network performance Monitor 10.5
For more information about upgrading, see the SolarWinds Knowledge base article, "Compatibility of SolarWinds Orion Products for Installation and Upgrade".

This article applies to all SolarWinds Orion products
