Enable SSL connections on Windows Server 2012

This article describes how to enable SSL connections to the SolarWinds Orion Web Console in Windows Server 2012.


All Orion Core products


  1. Log in to your SolarWinds Orion server as an administrator.
  2. Click Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
  3. On the Connections pane, expand the name of your SolarWinds Orion server, and then expand Sites.
  4. Select your SolarWinds Orion web site, and then click Bindings in the Actions pane on the right.
  5. Click Add in the Site Bindings window.
  6. In the Type field, select https, and then confirm that the Port value is 443.
  7. In the SSL Certificate field, select a certificate, and then click OK.
  8. Click Close on the Site Bindings window.
  9. In the center pane, double-click SSL Settings in the IIS group.
  10. Select Require SSL, and then click Apply in the Actions pane on the right.
  11. In the Connections pane, select your SolarWinds Orion web site.
  12. Click Restart in the Manage Web Site group on the right.
  13. Check to see if the changes have been made to the Orion Database. If not follow the steps below.


Changing settings on the Orion Database Manager

To enable SSL Connections to the SolarWinds Orion Web Console in Orion Database

1. Log in to the Orion server as local administrator
2. Open Database Manager (Start -> All Programs -> SolarWinds Orion -> Advanced Features -> Database Manager)
3. Click on "Add default database"
4. Choose and then expand the SolarwindsOrion database.
5. Scroll down and look for Websites table.
6. Right-click on Websites and then click Query Table.
7. Click Execute Query
8. Click on "Enable table editing" to edit the ServerName column and then change it to the FQDN on your URL.
9. Ensure that Port column is set to 443 and that SSLEnabled column is set to 1.
10. Hit enter to save the changes
