Editing a node throws a Javascript error

When editing or adding a node in the Orion Web Console, the following Javascript error is displayed:

  • Issue is that you are unable to “submit” anything on the edit nodes page, even if no changes are made. 



JavaScript error:Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException


ProvideFault Failed, check fault Information.




  • NPM


  • This can be caused due to a different issues, including:
    • The maximum worker process must be changed to 1 in the application pool.
    • Corrupted serviceDirectory.json file. 


Steps to resolve Application Pool Custom Settings: (If not set to 1)

  1. Open Internet Information Services Manager.
  2. Navigate to the Application Pool properties of your SolarWinds Orion server.
  3. Set the Maximum number of worker processes of the default application pool to 1.


Steps to resolve a corrupt serviceDirectory.json file

  1. Stop all services including Solarwinds Administration service (its important).
  2. Delete serviceDirectory.json file from C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Orion\ .
  3. Start everything back including Solarwinds Administration service.
  4. Wait for ~5 minutes, when everything starts, this json file gets recreated.
  5. Do iisreset under local admin in command prompt or from Run:
    • To restart IIS: Click Start, click Run type IISReset, and then click OK.
