Overview

This article describes the problem when ESXi hosts show status unknown. It is also unable to poll and VM's on ESXi hosts also display as unknown.

Environment

  • NPM version 11.5.2
  • VMAN version 6.3+

Cause

This issue occurs when in NPM virtualization settings, you poll through ESXi or vcenter while in VMAN appliance, you are polling through ESXi or vCenter. Both NPM and VMAN should poll through the same settings preferably vcenter with the same credentials applied.

Resolution

  1. Disable VMAN NPM integration. This can be located in the virtualization settings of the Web Console.
  2. Change all ESXi hosts to poll through vCenter. This can be checked on Visualization settings page of the Web Console.
  3. Change all ESXi hosts to poll through vCenter in VMAN
  4. Enable VMAN NPM integration.
  5. Run sync wizard.
  6. Go to the virtualization tab and click vcenter.
  7. Click discover and then poll now.

OR

  1. Disable VMAN NPM integration. This can be located in the virtualization settings of the Web Console.
  2. Go to database manager
  3. Query vim_hosts table.
  4. Update polling source columns to 0.
