Create syslog rules/alerts

Overview

This article provides steps on how to create Syslog rules and corresponding alert actions via Syslog Viewer on the SolarWinds Application Server.

Environment

All versions of Orion products

Steps

  1. Access the Syslog Viewer from the SolarWinds application server via All programs > Solarwinds Orion > Syslog and SNMP Traps, and select Syslog Viewer.
  2. From the menu of the Viewer, choose Files > Settings > Alerts/Filter Rules tab.
  3. Choose Add New Rule.
  4. Choose the tab to fill in the criteria to alert on.
  5. Choose the Alert Actions tab > Add New Action  to define the action e.g. Send an E-Mail/Page.
  6. Fill in the appropriate email address and the hostname or IP address of the SMTP server.
