This article describes how to create an alert action to reboot the Windows server if the service status is down.

NPM 11.5 and later

  1. Go to Alert Trigger Action and locate the Execute an External VB Script option.
  2. Create a script to execute a system reboot when the alert triggers if the service status is down.

See the How to force restart a Windows box using VBScript? (© 2018 Stack Exchange Inc., available at, obtained on August 27, 2018.) article for an example of a VBScript.

Please note 2 key points with executing scripts via alert actions:

-Solarwinds does not support the actual scripts

-The script will run on your primary orion server so please plan to code your script accordingly. (If you need to reboot a target node then you'll have to adjust your script so that when it runs on your orion server - it does what you expect it to do to your remote node/server)
