Overview

Each time a trap message is received, it will work through every rule from the top to bottom.

This articles describes how to create a discard trap rule.

Environment

  • NPM 11.5.2 and later

Steps

  1. Go to Start > Program Files > SolarWinds > Orion > Trap Viewer.
  2. Select the View-Alert/Filter Rules tab.
From here you can filter the data:
    • by IP address
    • by Message Type Patterns
    • Message Patterns
    • Severity and others
  3. Add the following Alert Actions to your rule:
    • "Discard Trap Message"
    • "Stop processing Trap Rules"

"Stop processing Trap rules"
To make sure that they are processed first, rearrange the Trap rules so that the ones which filter and discard messages are at the top of the list.

There are no automated settings to prune the traps table.
Have your DBA use a truncate/deletion syntax to purge the table.

Here is how it is done:

  1. Open Database Manager
  2. Open the Traps and TrapVarbinds Tables with read-write permissions
    • truncate table TRAPS
    • truncate table TRAPVARBINDS
