Connection errors when installing NPM additional web server

The following error is displayed when installing NPM 12.1 WebOnly or an additional web server:

An Error Has Occurred

Error Description:

Can't receive data from SolarWinds Information Service

This request operation sent to

net.tcp://happ30:17777/SolarWinds/InformationService/v3/Orion/ssl did not receive a reply within the configure timeout (00:00:29.6734056). The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout. This may be because the service is still processing the operation or because the service was unable to send a reply message. Please consider increasing the operation timeout (by casting the channel/proxy to IContextChannel and setting the OperationTimeout properly) and ensure that the service is able to connect to the client.


A message in the OrionInstaller.log file also indicates an error with the OIP server connection:

NPM 12.1


The error is due to the proxy settings in Internet Explorer.


  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click the gear icon, and then click Internet Options.
  3. Under the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
  4. Set the proper configuration, and then save the changes.
