Overview

This article describes the issue where devices are polled for both Layer 2 and Layer 3 topology, but the accurate topology data is held in Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP).

Environment

NPM 11.5.3 and earlier

Cause

This issue occurs when Orion prioritizes the Layer 2 data and ignores the information held in CDP on devices that are configured to poll for both Layer 2 and Layer 3 topology.

Resolution

  1. Verify that Layer 2 topology polling is disabled on all devices that support CDP.
  2. Navigate to the following path in the install directory (C by default):\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion and run SolarWinds.Orion.Topology.Calculator.exe to trigger a recalculation of Topology.
  3. Allow 1 hour for the topology calculation to complete and then check if the ConnectNow links are displaying correctly in Network Atlas.
