This article describes how to clear the website cache and rebuild the website when getting an unexpected error on the website, such as:

Failed to load viewstate.

All NPM versions

  • Consult your System Administrator before performing the following procedure.
  • Save a copy of the original root folder to your local drive as a backup file, in case you need to roll back later.
  1. Log on to your NPM server using Local Admin.
  2. In the Orion NPM server, access Orion Service Manager by going to Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features.
  3. Click Shutdown Everything to stop all services.
  4. Open CMD, type iisreset /stop, and then press Enter.
  5. Go to the following locations and delete the folder inside the root folder, do not delete the Root folder:

    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root

  6. Start the IIS service through the CMD prompt, type iisreset /start, and then press Enter.
  7. Start all Orion Services.

If that does not help, try rebuilding website:

  1. Stop all Orion Services using Orion Service Manager.
  2. Stop the SolarWinds NetPerfMon website within IIS.
  3. Rename the C:\Inetpub\SolarWinds\ folder.
  4. Delete the SolarWinds NetPerfMon website from IIS.
  5. Delete the Solarwinds Orion Application Pool under Application Pools.
  6. Clean the cache by deleting the content of the below folders:

    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root\
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root\

  7. Run the Configuration Wizard from Start > SolarWinds Orion > Configuration and Auto-Discovery > Configuration Wizard.
  8. Select Database, Website and Services, and then click Next.
  9. When the wizard runs, the Website Settings will show the Website Root Directory, typically c:\Inetpub\Solarwinds
  10. Change the folder to a new name like Solarwinds2 to create a fresh website.
  11. Complete the Wizard.
