Change the preferred Cisco MIB for hardware health in NPM

Updated: January 16, 2019

Overview

Sometimes when polling Cisco devices for Hardware health, NPM shows values that do not match what the device is actually reporting. Switching the preferred Cisco MIB for hardware health polling can resolve this issue. This article provides steps on how to force Orion to use CISCO-ENVMON-MIB instead of CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB.

Environment

  • All NPM versions

Steps

NPM 11.0 or earlier:

  1. Open the following file: C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\HardwareHealth\SolarWinds.HardwareHealth.Pollers.dll.config
  2. Find the entry: <add key="IgnoreCiscoNewEntityMib" value="false"/>
  3. Modify it to show: <add key="IgnoreCiscoNewEntityMib" value="true"/>

NPM 11.5 and later

This setting can be changed either per node, or globally.
