SolarWinds Orion alerts trigger emails are not received. 

The following error appears in the ActionsExecutionAlert.log.

ERROR AlertingLogger - Sending the email from to with subject High Response Time on ServerName failed. Failure sending mail.
System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: Failure sending mail. ---> System.IO.IOException: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host


Orion 2015+


The SMTP server is not responding or is outright rejecting the connection from the SolarWinds server.


  1. Test the SMTP server connectivity via Telnet.
  2. If the connection is successful, verify your SMTP server data.
  3. If the connection is not successful, work with your email team to investigate the issue.
