After migration of a poller Configuration Wizard loops the popup Multiple polling Engines Detected

Updated 24-01-2019

Overview

After performing the migration to a new server of any poller, the Configuration Wizard will start. After selecting the SQL Instance and User, the Configuration Wizard requests the DB inside of the instance. When pressing "Next" a page similar to the one below will show:

clipboard_e606677a85c28cef19db8786d3e5f76ee.png

After pressing OK on the message above, it just goes to the same page on the Configuration Wizard and the loop starts.

Environment

  • NPM 12.4 (probably will affect other versions but not tested)

Cause

When checking the DB, the Configuration Wizard requires access to the Master DB specifically on the "VIEW SERVER STATE". On the Configuration Wizard log you will see a log similar to:

ERROR SceneContainer - SceneContainer:bntNext_Click: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): VIEW SERVER STATE permission was denied on object 'server', database 'master'.
The user does not have permission to perform this action.

Resolution

  • Open SQL Management Studio and connect to the instance
  • Run the script below change the <user_name> to the one used on the Configuration Wizard

use master
go
GRANT VIEW SERVER STATE TO <user_name>

After the above is performed just run the Configuration Wizard again.
