Overview

If you attempt to run CoreInstaller.msi as a normal executable, you will receive the following error message:

Invalid Orion Core Configuration value.  Set ORIONINSTALLATIONTYPE on the command line to one of the following:  "FULL", "POLLER" or "WEB CONSOLE"

CoreInstaller.msi is found in the \ProgramData\Solarwinds\Installers\ folder.

Environment

Possible Resolution

To use CoreInstaller.msi, you must run the file from a command line with a switch to indicate how the MSI package should run.

  1. Open a Command Prompt by entering cmd.exe.
  2. Navigate to the installation directory. If the program is installed in the default location, enter:
    cd C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Installers\
  3. Run the following command with the appropriate switch:
CoreInstaller.msi ORIONINSTALLATIONTYPE=[FULL/POLLER/WEB CONSOLE]

where:

  • FULL installs a complete Primary Polling Engine.
  • POLLER installs an Additional Polling Engine.
  • WEB CONSOLE installs an Additional Web Server.
