Installer error Cannot run the installer from a mapped drive

Overview

When upgrading to NPM 12.2, NCM 7.7, or SAM 6.4, you launch the installer from the Download folder in your profile and receive the following error message:

"Cannot run the installer from a mapped drive. Copy the file to a local drive and run the installer again."

Environment

Upgrading from:

  • NPM 12.1 to NPM 12.2
  • NCM 7.6 to NCM 7.7
  • SAM 6.3 to SAM 6.4

Cause

The installer cannot be executed from the Downloads folder.

Resolution

  1. Copy the file out of the Windows profile, preferably to another drive, such as D:

  2. Right click on the installer and click unlock.

  3. Run the file as an administrator.
