Overview

How to turn on and off de-duplication for SolarWinds Discovery Engine.

Environment

  • NPM 12

Steps

  1. RDP to your Orion Server.
  2. Navigate to this path using File Explorer or however else you know how to get there: C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion.
  3. Look for this filename with this file extension: SolarWinds.Orion.Discovery.Job.dll (config file).
  4. Open with Notepad.
  5. Do a ctrl + f and look for 'duplica'.
  6. There will be flags for IP Address, Mac Addresses, SysName, and DNS Duplication.
  7. Original will look something like this:
  • <add key="DisableIpAddressDuplicateDetector" value="false" />
  • <add key="DisableMacDuplicateDetector" value="false" />
  • <add key="DisableSysNameDuplicateDetector" value="false" />
  • <add key="DisableDNSDuplicateDetector" value="false" />
  1.  Change the "false" to true like this:
  • <add key="DisableIpAddressDuplicateDetector" value="true" />
  • <add key="DisableMacDuplicateDetector" value="true" />
  • <add key="DisableSysNameDuplicateDetector" value="true" />
  • <add key="DisableDNSDuplicateDetector" value="true" />
  1. Save.
  2.  Re-run your Discovery Job and now we should ignore duplicates.
  3. To turn De-duplication back on, the opposite is true, Disable=false means de-duplication is set to on.
