How to make Orion poll a node with a Dynamic IP

Overview

It is possible to poll Nodes which use dynamic IP addresses.

Environment

  • NPM 11.5.x
  • NPM 12.x

Steps

  1. Access a nodes properties via "Edit Node"update nodesdata set dynamicip = 1
  2. Check "Dynamic IP Address" and fill in the proper hostname.

 

You can also do this via the database manager

  1. Start > All Programs > Solarwinds Orion > Advanced Features > Database Manager > Add Default Server>
  2. Expand the NPM Database (default )SolarWindsOrion >
  3. Select Nodesdata table > Right Click > Query Table >
  4. Run this query
  5. update nodesdata set dynamicip = 1 where nodecaption = 'computername'

 

Note: Polled via External node is not supported
