Overview

If a proxy server has been enabled on your Orion server, Orion Virtualization Monitor will attempt to use it to connect to VMware vCenter, and these connection attempts may not succeed. The following procedure disables the proxy server, so Orion Virtualization Monitor will not use it when polling vCenters.

Environment

Orion NPM version 10.1 and higher.

Steps

To configure Orion Virtualization Monitor to not use any existing default proxy server:

  1. Log on to your Orion server using an account with administrative privileges.
  2. In a text editor, open the SolarWinds.VIM.VMware.Jobs.dll.config, SolarWinds.VIM.BusinessLayer.dll.config and the SolarWinds.VIM.Collector.dll.config configuration files, located, by default, in C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\VIM\.
  3. If you are configuring an Orion NPM 10.1.X installation, add the following code, within the <configuration></configuration> tags and after the <log4net></log4net> section:
        <system.net>
        <!--Specifies whether a web proxy is used. The default value is true.-->
        <defaultProxy enabled="false" />
      </system.net>
  4. If you are configuring an installation of Orion NPM 10.2 or higher, within the <configuration></configuration> tags and after <log4net></log4net> the section add:
    <system.net>
        <!--Specifies whether a web proxy is used. The default value is true.-->
        <defaultProxy enabled="false" />
      </system.net>
  5. Save the SolarWinds.VIM.VMware.Jobs.dll.config, SolarWinds.VIM.BusinessLayer.dll.config and the SolarWinds.VIM.Collector.dll.config configuration files.
  6. Click Start > Administrative Tools > Services.
  7. Right-click SolarWinds Job Engine v2, and then click Restart.
