GPON interfaces from Huawei are not listed in NPM

Updated June 6, 2017

Overview

NPM does not list Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPON) interfaces on Huawei devices.

Environment

  • All NPM versions
  • Huawei devices with GPON interfaces

Cause

NPM uses the RFC 1213 standard for ifIndex (© 2017 IETF, available at http://www.ietf.org/, obtained on June 5, 2017). Huawei devices use a different way of specifying ifIndices.

Resolution

Run the snmp-agent ifindex-format standard command on your Huawei devices to configure the IP address range of destination hosts to support the standard ifIndex coding format:

snmp-agent ifindex-format standard [ host start-ipaddress end-ipaddress ]

Legend

host
Indicates the IP address range of the destination host to be configured.

start-ipaddress
Indicates the start IP address.
Dotted decimal notation.

end-ipaddress
Indicates the end IP address.
Dotted decimal notation.

The GPON interfaces are now displayed in NPM.
