Failed to deploy Orion agent for Linux as unable to identify target machine's operating system

Updated 8-31-2016

Overview

When attempting to remote deploy the Orion agent for Linux, you may receive the following error when testing the credentials:  "Failed to validate credentials for deployment. Unable to identify target machine's operating system." You may not have a supported Linux distribution. To resolve, verify your Linux distribution is supported. If the distribution is supported, you may need to manually deploy the Orion agent for Linux using another method.

Environment

  • Orion 2016.2
  • Orion agent for Linux

Cause

Your target system may not have a supported Linux distribution. The Orion agent for Linux supports the following distributions:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 x64, x86
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 x64, x86
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 x64
  • CentOS-5 x64, x86
  • CentOS-6 x64, x86
  • CentOS-7 x64
  • SUSE Linux 10 x64, x86
  • Ubuntu-14 x64
  • Amazon Linux AMI x64

You may receive the error "Failed to validate credentials for deployment. Unable to identify target machine's operating system."

Resolution

Check if your Linux distribution is supported. If it is not supported, you may need to upgrade the Linux distribution or install a supported Linux distribution.

If the distribution is supported, you should manually deploy the Orion agent for Linux using another method. See your administrator guide for instructions.
