Events page error: Maximum request length exceeded

Overview

The Events page loads correctly but the following error is displayed when a filter is applied:

Unexpected Website Error: Maximum request length exceeded.

   

Environment

All NPM versions

Cause 

The issue is caused by any of the following:

  • The default settings were changed to a higher value for the page to render.
  • There are issues with the larger Orion environment configuration and needs to be modified.

Resolution

Perform any of the following resolutions depending on the issue.

Resolution 1

  1. Press Start, and then go to All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Database Manager.
  2. Click Add default server.
  3. Expand the NPM database (for example, your default SolarWindsOrion database).
  4. Right-click on the WebuserSettings table and select Query table.
  5. Replace the SQL with the following query:
    UPDATE  [dbo].[WebUserSettings]
    SET settingvalue = 300
    where settingname= 'Web-EventMaxMsgPerPage'
    
  6. Click Enable table editing.
  7. Edit the Web-EventMaxMsgPerPage table and change the value to 250.
  8. Execute the query.

Resolution 2

  1. Press Start, and then go to All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Database Manager.
  2. Click Add default server.
  3. Expand the NPM database (for example, your default SolarWindsOrion database).
  4. Right-click on the WebuserSettings table and select Query table.
  5. Click Execute Query.
  6. Click Enable table editing.
  7. Edit the Web-EventMaxMsgPerPage table and change the value to 250.
  8. Execute the query.

Resolution 3

  1. Go to C:\inetpub\SolarWinds and create a backup of the web.config file.
  2. Open the original web.config file in Notepad.
  3. Add the following lines after the <configuration> line:

    <location path="Orion/NetPerfMon/Events.aspx">
    <system.web>
    <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="1048576" executionTimeout="14400" />
    </system.web>
    </location>

  4. Restart the World Wide Web Publishing Service (© 2017 Microsoft, available at https://msdn.microsoft.com/, obtained on July 6, 2017.).
