Error: The communication object cannot be used for communication because it is in the Faulted state

Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the following error:

Error: The communication object, System.ServiceModel.Security.SecuritySessionClientSettings1+
ClientSecurityDuplexSessionChannel[System.ServiceModel.Channels.IDuplexSessionChannel], 
cannot be used for communication because it is in the Faulted state.

 

Environment

NPM version 9.5 or later

Resolution

1. Click Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.
2. Locate SolarWinds Orion Information Service.
3. If SolarWinds Orion Information Service is not currently Started, right-click SolarWinds Orion Information Service, and then click Start.
4. If SolarWinds Orion Information Service is currently Started, right-click SolarWinds Orion Information Service, and then click Restart.
5. Locate Net.Tcp Port Sharing Service.
6. If Net.Tcp Port Sharing Service is not currently Started, right-click Net.Tcp Port Sharing Service, and then click Start.
7. If Net.Tcp Port Sharing Service is currently Started, right-click Net.Tcp Port Sharing Service, and then click Restart.
8. (Pre NPM 11.5 steps)Confirm that there are no custom properties either named interface or containing the hash (#) character, as shown in the following steps:
    a. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Grouping and Access Control > Custom Property Builder.
    b. Click Properties > Remove Custom Properties.

    c. If any of the listed properties are either named interface or contain the hash (#) character, check the properties either named interface or containing the hash (#) character.
    d. Click OK.

(Post NPM 11.5 steps)

    a. Open Webconsole > Settings > Manage Custom Properties

    b. If any of the listed properties are either named interface or contain the hash (#) character, check the properties either named interface or containing the hash (#) character and click delete.    
  
9. If your Orion server is currently running either Wave Security or a Kaseya Security Agent, these products should be stopped or uninstalled as they are not presently compatible with Orion Network Performance Monitor.
