WebinarUpcoming Webinar: Know What’s Changed – with NEW Server Configuration Monitor

Change management in IT is critical. But, even with a good change management process, changes are too often not correctly tracked, if at all. The configuration of your servers and applications is a key factor in their performance, availability, and security. Many incidents can be tracked back to an authorized (and sometimes unauthorized) configuration change, whether to a system file, configuration file, or Windows® Registry entry. Join SolarWinds VP of product management Brandon Shopp to discover how the new SolarWinds® Server Configuration Monitor is designed to help you.

Error: Informational - System: Detected an unauthorized user attempting to access the SNMP interface

Updated February 17, 2017

Overview

Email alerts from UPS devices indicate unexpected SNMP traffic from your primary Orion platform server. The following error is displayed:

Informational - System: Detected an unauthorized user attempting to access the SNMP interface from (ip address of our primary Orion server)

Environment

  • All IPAM versions
  • All NPM versions

Cause

IPAM may be scanning subnets on your networks and possible old SNMP strings are used.

Resolution

To resolve this, go to Settings > IPAM Settings > SNMP Credentials and look for old or not working SNMP strings.

Also, check any scheduled network discoveries that may have old SNMP strings in it.
