Error: Couldn't connect to database netperfmon! The database is not an Orion database or configuration is not finished

Overview

When you run the Configuration Wizard, you might encounter the following error:

Couldn't connect to database netperfmon!  The database is not an Orion database or configuration is not finished.

Environment

All versions of Orion products

Cause

This error indicates that you are using an existing database that is either a non-SolarWinds database, a corrupted Solarwinds database or a database from an older version of Orion which is no longer compatible.

Resolution

You cannot connect a newer version of Orion to an older version of the database. Due to this, you need to either do a stepwise upgrade using the Product Upgrade Advisor or create a new database using the Configuration Wizard under Create a new database radial option in the Database Settings: Specify the SQL Server Database to create or select an existing database section.
