Overview

This article describes issue where the Orion Module Engine is not starting correctly due to Core Business layer not being able to start with error message stating: 

ERROR SolarWinds.BusinessLayerHost.PluginInstanceAppDomain - Plugin "Core Business Layer" failed to start.
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'SolarWinds.Orion.Core.Discovery, Version=2015.1.25300.8197, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
File name: 'SolarWinds.Orion.Core.Discovery, Version=2015.1.25300.8197, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'

Environment

All versions of NPM Core from 11+

 

Resolution

  1. Open File Explorer on the Orion server.
  2. Navigate to %installedpath%\Solarwinds\Orion\Discovery.
  3. Copy the SolarWinds.Orion.Core.DiscoveryPlugin.dll file.
  4. Navigate to %installedpath%\Solarwinds\Orion and paste the file into that parent directory
  5. Restart all Orion service in Orion service manager.
