Error 500 in the Web Console or Configuration Wizard after upgrading to 12.0

Overview

After upgrading to 12.0, an Error 500 appears after running the Configuration Wizard (CW) or after attempting to bring up the web page. When bringing up the Web Console, the following error appears:

Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.CodeDom.Providers.DotNetCompilerPlatform, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. An API call exited abnormally. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800300FA (STG_E_ABNORMALAPIEXIT)) 
  Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. 

 

 Exception Details: System.IO.FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.CodeDom.Providers.DotNetCompilerPlatform, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. Environment

NPM version 12.0

Cause 

The application pool member that is used by the SolarWinds Web Console has its identity set incorrectly. By default it is set to NetworkServices.

Resolution

  1. Open the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
  2. Click on Application Pools.
  3. Locate and right-click SolarWinds Orion Application Pool.
  4. Click Advance Settings.
  5. Locate, and then click Identity.
  6. Click on the ... box to open the options.
  7. Change it to LocalSystem.
