Overview

This article provides brief information and a resolution to the following error on some Orion Polling Engines when running a SNMP walk on the SNMPv3 device:

Error 31224 Crypto Error - Unable to perform the requested algorithm.

If FIPS restristions are enabled, please select a FIPS compliant algorithm.

Environment

All NPM versions

Cause

The issue is caused by a missing dll or OpenSSL folder located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SolarWinds\

Resolution

-Remove the OpenSSL folder from C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SolarWinds\

-Run a core repair, which will replace that folder with the correct version of OpenSSL, 1.0.1h

If not resolved:

Check directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SolarWinds\OpenSSL\x86 and make sure the following files are there and unblocked [right click > properties, unblock(not shown)]:

4758cca.dll

aep.dll

atalla.dll

capi.dll

chil.dll

cswift.dll

gmp.dll

gost.dll

libeay32.dll

nuron.dll

padlock.dll

ssleay32.dll

sureware.dll

ubsec.dll

***Note libeay32.dll was susceptible to the openssl poodle attack previously but since has been resolved in NPM 10.7 Heartbleed hotfix 2. Some antivirus systems may have that file on quarantine list***
