Entity Framework causing Configuration Wizard to fail

Overview

Unable to complete the Configuration Wizard process and the following error occurs:

Database configuration failed:

Exception while configuring plugin Orion Core Services component Orion Database. An error occurred while getting provider information from the database. This can be caused by Entity Framework using an incorrect connection string. Check the inner exceptions for details and ensure that the connection string is correct.

Resolution

When running Configuration Wizard, enter Credentials on the first selection. Use the SA account and password instead of the AD account.

If this fails, uninstall the Orion product by using the following steps:

  1. Click Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.
  2. Click SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor... and then click Remove.
  3. Complete the Orion NPM uninstall wizard.
  4. In the Add or Remove Programs window, click SolarWinds Orion Information Service and then click Remove.
  5. Complete the uninstallation of SolarWinds Orion Information Service.
  6. Click Start > Run.
  7. Type regedit, and then click Ok.
  8. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software
  9. Delete both Solarwinds and SolarWinds.net folders.
  10. If you are uninstalling Orion NPM from a 64-bit computer, expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Wow6432Node and then delete both Solarwinds and SolarWinds.net folders.
  11. Delete the SolarWinds folder from the Program Files folder on your main volume. Typically, the Program Files folder is located at c:\Program Files\.
  12. Delete the SolarWinds folder from the Program Files\Common Files folder on your main volume. Typically, the Common Files folder is located at c:\Program Files\Common Files.
  13. Delete the SolarWinds website directory. Typically, the SolarWinds website directory is located at c:\Inetpub\.
  14. Delete the SolarWinds folder from the All Users\Application Data\ directory. Typically, the SolarWinds folder is located at c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\.
  15. Reinstall Orion.
